At High Country, we are fortunate to have a dedicated team of professionals whose diverse strengths and expertise keep our mill running each day seamlessly. Beyond those on the front lines, we also rely on an exceptional group of employees working behind the scenes—individuals whose hard work and commitment often go unseen but without whom our operations wouldn’t be possible.
Scott Greene
Owner/Founder
Scott began his career in the lumber industry laying sticks at Granite Hardwoods in 1986. He then went on to complete training at the NHLA Official Inspection School in Memphis, TN in 1987. From there, he continued to grow and gain experience in the industry, eventually purchasing what would be known as High Country Lumber and Mulch in 2007. In his free time, Scott enjoys raising black angus cattle, processing firewood, and playing golf. Employees at HCL&M pride Scott on his dedicated involvement in the company and its goals. He works alongside his employees daily to promote their success. Scott holds his employees in high regard and views each of their successes as a success for the company as a whole.
Sarah Perdue
Vice President of Operations
Sarah has been a part of the HCL&M team since 2021. She is known for her expertise in driving efficiency and streamlining processes to support business growth. As the Vice President of Operations, she leads by example and uses her positive attitude and tireless energy to encourage others to work hard and succeed. In her free time, Sarah enjoys pursuing creative outlets such as painting and embroidery, and spending time with her family. If she is not talking about work, you can guarantee that she is talking about her cat, Birdie. If you are lucky, you might run into Birdie at the office – she works part time a few days a week.
Darryl "Duke" Gorciak
Sawmill Manager
Joining the team in 2015, Duke has risen through the ranks to become the sawmill manager at HCL&M in 2023. He is vital in the operations of the sawmill, facilitating the production of over 20 million board feet annually. In his free time, you’ll find Duke supporting his kids at sporting events, embarking on a new home improvement project, or fishing and traveling with family. Duke’s coworkers at HCL&M say he is the glue that holds the team together. He is always ready and able to help at any moment and puts in unmatched time and effort to see things through to the finish line.
Justin Grose
Timber Buyer/Forestry Specialist
Justin joined the HCL&M team in 2016. He oversees timber procurement, manages existing tracts and contracts, as well as manages the log yard and log sales. Justin handles his role at HCL&M with professionalism and careful attention to ensure a smooth and seamless timber buying process for both HCL&M and landowners alike. He takes pride in the working relationships he creates and maintains with the loggers and landowners and finds satisfaction in helping both parties achieve healthier forests through sound management practices. In his free time, Justin enjoys spending time with his family and watching his boys play football and compete in wrestling. When he is not at work or sporting events, Justin spends his time hunting and fishing.
Tiffany Gorciak
Shipping/Logistics
Tiffany has been with HCL&M since 2016 managing kiln-dried inventory and overseeing all aspects of shipping and logistics. She is an expert in her work and a cornerstone of the HCL&M team, well-known for her thoroughness and dedication to upholding company standards. Tiffany’s coworkers love working with her because of her kind and understanding nature and commend her attention to detail and ability to manage the complexities of her position with ease. She appreciates the family-like atmosphere at HCL&M and everyone’s willingness to work together to succeed. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, reading, camping, and relaxing anywhere by the water. When not at work, you can usually find Tiffany on the bleachers somewhere watching her boys compete in sports or chasing around her wide-open toddler.
Melissa Brooks
Accounts Payable/Human Resources
Melissa was a wonderful addition to the HCL&M when she joined the team in 2024. She has seamlessly integrated herself into the team as an integral part of the day-to-day operations and successes here at HCL&M. Customers and employees alike appreciate Melissa for her kind and welcoming approach to every situation. Outside of work, you can find Melissa getting lost in a good mystery/thriller novel. Melissa values her position at HCL&M for providing the ability for her to engage in meaningful work that challenges her and allows for continuous learning and development.
Lindsey Greene
Marketing/Sales
Lindsey has been with HCL&M since 2021. She designs and manages all websites and social media pages and creates and implements all byproduct marketing campaigns. Lindsey complements the HCL&M team perfectly with her willingness to learn and commitment to the success of each employee and the company as a whole. She is both detail-oriented and creative, the perfect combination of qualities to manage all things marketing here at HCL&M. In her free time, Lindsey loves watching the Clemson Tigers in any sporting event, especially football, and playing with her golden retrievers, Annie and Hattie.
